Disposable Email?
I know there isn't a whole heck of a lot we can do about spam, but there are some things we can do to cut down on some of it. I read about 10 Minute Mail over at Geeky Speaky, one of my favorite sites for geek news and thought it was a terrific idea.
At 10 Minute Mail "you will be given a temporary e-mail address. Any e-mails sent to that address will show up automatically on the web page. You can read them, click on links, and even reply to them. The e-mail address will expire after 10 minutes."
I have only used this one time but if there is another occasion I'd like a disposable email address I'm glad to know it is available.
There are a couple of others
There are a couple of others that you can check as well, especially if you need the address for longer than 10 minutes.
MyTrashMail.com
and
Mailinator.com
A slight touch of irony here is that MyTrashMail has spam filtering enabled, and the only way to turn it off is to sign up on their site. This has actually blocked some activation emails from a few forums.
If you use these addresses that stick around for longer than 10 minutes then remember to delete activation emails or what have you so that others won't see them. :^)
Another thing to note is that some services have become wise to these temporary email addresses and will not accept them. For situations such as these, if you -really- want to use said service, I recommend using your website's control panel to create an email alias (or forwarder, which ever it's called) for the purpose of signing up for the service.
You can then delete the alias/forwarder when it's no longer needed.
That's something of a troublesome approach though. When I find a service that rejects MyTrashMail, Mailinator, and almost certainly other equal services I automatically assume that they're going to spam. In such cases I typically just go to a competing website and won't bother with the forwarding, but it's an approach that I do use occasionally. :^)
I do like the idea of this 10Minute mail though. I'll definitely keep it in mind for the next time that I need a disposable email address.
G'day!

Thanks Steph for the other options...
I seldom need something like this but I like to have the option available in the event I do...
