I just want to cry :(

This blog is broken until I get a chance to fix it.

Edit: I think it is fixed now. If anyone finds a "page not found error" please let me know by responding to this post.

I got a new module (plugin to you WP people) that let me make bulk changes to existing URL names and will automatically name URL's from now on. This blog really isn't very old and I'm glad I got the module (I had been manually inputting the URL names) but now all of my URL names are changed and when people try to click on any backlinks that are floating around the interweb they are going to get a page not found error. I just want to cry. :(

I'm going to look back at some of my posts and try to remember how they was named before so I can change them back. In the meantime this blog is borked and so am I.Crying 6

Ditto

I done something very similar at one point.

For whatever reason it struck me as a good idea to change the way that my perma links are formatted. Come to think of it, I think that I was wanting the categories in the URL to add those as keywords for the URL.

Well of course that killed all of the back links to my blog.

I've added some redirects via my web site's control panel to catch a few that are still lingering around.

Anyway, midnight, I'm zonked. Good night! ;D

Sorry you went through it

Sorry you went through it too... yeah, I need to learn more about redirects... I've never had a real good understanding of the .htacess file but I guess it is time I learn...

I forgot to tell you, I

I forgot to tell you, I added you to my blogroll :). They're under Links in my header.

Yikes!

That sucks! If that happened to me I'd cry so hard I won't have any more tears left. How many more posts do you need to edit?

Just a few...

I'm not going to edit them all - just the ones I know for sure I have back links for...

Thanks for the link.. :)

btw, if you register here you will be able to edit your comments... Registration is easy and instant for now... I'll keep it that way until the spammers find me...

While I have emailed Anna in

While I have emailed Anna in case others come across this post and are in a similar situation the answer is redirect 301.

In .htaccess use
redirect 301 /old/alias /new/alias
This will keep your back links going to the right place, while also keep structure

:)

I don't understand redirect 301...

I don't remember the URL names of all the old aliases... :(

I only remember some that are significant, for example the 2 paid posts I did for Loudlaunch and some reviews of friends' sites and one or two on Digg...

This blog is a learning experience though, so I'll try to figure out how do do the redirect 301 thing for future reference...
