Messed over by an affiliate

When an affiliate messes you over it can leave a really bad taste in your mouth. For example, my affiliate code for PayPerPost was "2nkzzn" and I have used the code on several different web sites the last several months. Today, on a whim, I decided to check my affiliate status at PPP and see if I had any new sign-ups. I notice that my code is now "ypyd4g". Ouch! :(

I edited all the posts on this site (that I could find) by removing the URL altogether that referenced the previous code I was given. Now I have to comb through posts and pages from some other web sites too. What a pain. :(

Hiya Anna

Hey there Anna,

Akismet and I had an argument and weren't speaking, but hopefully we have cooler heads today.

..Okay, I completely made that up. :-P It's probably because I use the Alexa redirect for my web address. I do this on blogs because the majority of them have "no follow" in their addresses.

CJ has done that to me twice, actually. I have an account with them now (at least I think I do) because I signed up for a fun "weird ebay auctions" widget. It made 50% of the links the authors and 50% of them mine. I'm not using it now because it never received click-thrus, but it was a fun idea.

I like the math captcha. I'm currently using an "are you a bot?" question.

Everything seems to be fine now... hmmmm.....

I'm just so afraid I'm going to miss a real comment due to all of my spam prevention... I installed 2 mods yesterday (that's Drupal speak for plug-ins)... One is called "Spam" that is very aggressive about keeping people out that are on a blacklist somewhere... and the other is the captcha that you saw... so far I haven't gotten one single spam, lol... and hooray that your comment went through... :)

ouch

Wow, what a major pain. I hadn't noticed that they changed their affiliate codes. That's a pretty nasty change to make in a program like that. :-/

The worse thing that happened to me was with CJ. I found out that they deleted my account when I attempted to log in and was greeted with a message indicating that "their records showed that this account is no longer available", or something to that effect.

I never did figure out what part of the ToS I had apparently broken. Every link, every plugin.. sigh, I don't know how long they hadn't been counting as I only checked the account a few times per month.

I feel for ya.

hi Steph, long time no talk to...

For some reason Akismet put your comment into the spam moderation queue, don't know why...

I heard that CJ has done the exact same thing to lots of people... I have an account with them but I haven't really used it yet because I'm afraid they will do the same thing to me...

Grats on the new domain name! That's always a good feeling to own your own domain... :)
