You Wordpress users probably don't have any idea what I'm talking about since there are literally thousands of pre-made Wordpress themes to select from. But for other Content Management System (CMS) users it is an entirely different story, especially for Drupal users like myself. There are very, very few pre-built themes for Drupal. I know I could take the time to learn how to design CMS themes but this is not the way I want to spend my time.

It has been very disheartening for me to try to find a Drupal theme I can live with (although I am 90% happy with the one I'm using now) and I've been wishing and hoping to find a larger selection to choose from. Today my wish has come true with Themestock.com, a site dedicated to CMS templates. Now I don't want to be selfish and only talk about Drupal because Themestock also offers fresh theme/template downloads of other popular CMS skins also. This is great news for Mambo, Joomla, PhPNuke, Postnuke, Xoops and even you Wordpress users, and that's just to name a few. If you are running an e-commerce and/or online shopping site using a CMS such as OSCommerce, osCMax, CRE Loaded, or Zen Cart you will find theme/template downloads at Themestock for your CMS also.

You can just look at the skins at Themestock and see that they are all very attractive, but what about quality? I checked into quality and found out that all of Themestock's skins/themes are high quality and validated using xhtml 1.0 or html 4.01. And in case you're wondering, new templates are added weekly so the selection is always fresh.

If you're not familiar with the process of changing your theme or template Themestock provides a full tutorial with step-by-step instructions. I'm not going to say something is good if I don't think it is good, and since I'm pretty much an expert on installing Drupal templates I personally checked out the tutorial so I could give you a heads up about their tuturials in general. My thinking is if the Drupal tutorial is good we can assume their other tutorials (for Joomla, Mambo, Xoops, etc.) are good also, and in my expert opinion this is a very thorough tutorial with step-by-step instructions that will make changing your CMS skin as easy as pie.

Themestock members have it all when it comes to CMS theming - attractive quality designs, easy to follow instructions, new items added every week, unlimited downloads, and individual items that can be purchased from the limited edition section. Yep, Themestock has it all.

I was surfing around the web and minding my own business when I saw this on my screen:

I took the screen shot and immediately restarted my computer without clicking the box at all but it must have been too late already. I went to a few more sites and then my monitor turned black. I thought my monitor had died but it wasn't the monitor, it was the computer.

I rebooted my computer but it would not start back up. It kept restarting itself over and over and would only let me start up in safe mode. (Thank goodness for that!)

I don't know if it was the errorsafe trojan that caused my problems but if not it was a mighty big coincidence. I did a virus scan but it didn't turn up anything. I really thought my computer had bit the big one.

I don't even know how I fixed it! I ran the virus checker from one of those online virus checker sites and I did a system restore to a previous date. I was really scared for about 3 hours.

The only thing that hasn't been fixed is my World of Warcraft game and I'm going to have re-install that one. Maybe this is a good thing after all. hehe

I think I do! I spend a lot of time surfing around the web looking for ways to monetize my blog(s) but it seems that I find myself looking at vacation and travel sites more and more these days. I found a website called WeNeedaVacation.com and I got a good chuckle out of. Now is that the perfect name for a vacation website or what? I think it is. :)

I'm a Florida gal myself. I'm one of the few people I know that was actually born and raised in Florida. As a native Floridian I think I can say this with a little bit of authority - you name it and WeNeedaVacation.com has it when it comes to Florida vacation rentals.

Not only am I a Florida gal, but I'm a stick-in-the-mud Florida gal. Although a Nantucket vacation rental sounds wonderful, I bet I'd freeze to death in the summer time if I went somewhere like Nantucket for vacation and that's no joke. I'm saving my blogging earnings for a vacation but I think I'll stick with the Florida vacation rentals for myself. There is no place like home. :)

All I can say is "wow!". Working for Google is almost as good as working from home. According to this video Google receives over 1300 resumes a day. After watching this I can understand why!
2 Thumbs Up

Move over ReviewMe, PayPerPost Direct is in town. And PayPerPost Direct, you must be doing something right because you seem have a lot of people shaking in their boots.

As of yesterday PayPerPost has made it possible for advertisers to order reviews directly from a blog. The new service is called PayPerPost Direct and this method of blog advertising is simple - a blogger places a special widget on their blog and through that widget an advertiser can request a blog entry as well as negotiate directly with the blogger. This in essence cuts out the middle man (yes, it cuts out PPP) and the fee is only 10% above the negotiated price. Some other blog advertising services charge a whopping 35-100%!

I know a lot of reviews are popping up lately that are comparing ReviewMe to PayPerPost Direct, and I suppose I could do that too. But I'm going to out on a limb here and ask why a blogger would feel like they have to pledge their loyalty and choose between PayPerPost Direct and ReviewMe or any other blog advertising services? I'm a freelance blogger, and if I can do the same job for more money then by golly that is exactly what I'm going to do.

John Chow, the self proclaimed King of Evil, is saying that PayPerPost Direct fails because "PayPerPost doesn’t have a publisher marketplace". Now if John Chow is really as evil as he claims to be I would think he would use both services to his advantage instead of touting one over the other. (Unless he has a vested interest in one of them that I don't know about.)

Mr Chow says that "most review orders come because of the marketplace and not because an advertiser visited the blog and saw the button". Wait a minute, nobody is saying you have to take yourself out of the ReviewMe publisher's marketplace. And nobody says (that I know of anyway) that you can't be in PPP Direct's publisher marketplace as well (when they roll it out). But I sure as heck would replace that "Get Reviewed by this blog for $400.00" that nets $200.00 (doh!) with a widget that says "PPP Direct - A post on this blog is $400.00" which would result in me keeping the whole cotton picking $400.00! To me that's not really evil at all. I'd call that a no-brainer. :)

Mr. Chow goes on to ask "and if the advertiser found you directly, why not deal with him directly instead of through PayPerPost?" My answer would be the same question to him. Yes, John, why do you do that with the ReviewMe button you have on your blog? John, why not deal with your advertiser directly instead of through ReviewMe? What's the difference between you using the ReviewMe button and you using the PPP Direct button if you get most of your review requests through the publisher's marketplace anyway? Oh, I know what the difference is. In Mr. Chow's case the difference is negative $200.00, hehe.

But seriously, one of the benefits of PPP Direct over dealing directly with the advertiser is the safety and security of having the money put into an escrow type of account where you can be assured of being paid for your work. There are other benefits too that you can read in this blog post.

The bottom line is that if you're going to put any button at all on your blog to solicit reviews, for goodness sakes go with the one that will pay you 100% of your asking price. But if you really are happier receiving 50% instead of 100% stick with your ReviewMe button. I opt for PPP Direct and 100% for myself. :)

Domain name: http://plainjaingraphics.com
Google PR: 3
Alexa: 1,157,699
Domain registered at Bluehost
Expiration date: 05/03/08 (I just renewed it a few weeks ago)

I'm a total noob at selling a domain name (never sold one before) so whoever buys it will either have to walk me through the transfer process or we'll have to learn together.

I can be contacted through the contact page at the top of this site. I'll be listing the domain on the Digital Point forums as well as some other forums and maybe I'll put it on SEDO for auction as well. Right now I'm just throwing it out there.

The ink cartridge for my printer ran out months ago and that's not an exaggeration. I never seem to remember to buy a new cartridge when I'm out shopping and the times I do remember that I need to buy one I've forgotten the model of the printer and which cartridge I need. Doh!

Today I found the solution to my little problem at Inkers. All I have to do is look to my right and see that I have a Lexmark Z25 printer and then quickly look it up at Inkers to find the inkjet replacement cartridge that fits my printer. No joke, I found the inkjet cartridge that fits my printer in less than 30 seconds. It is just that easy.

Inkers has an iron clad guarantee, a toll free customer support number, and free shipping of ink, inkjet cartridges, toner, toner cartridges for printers, copiers, and fax machines. I think the free shipping and the ease of the website is what is drawing me in. I love free shipping!

I changed the theme of this blog and cleaned up the look of it a bit. Also, I hope it is loading a bit faster than it has been in previous weeks. If anyone has any problem with it please let me know. I like it a lot better than my old theme myself.

Hmmm... I don't think the links are dark enough... I'll work on that tomorrow...

I recently posted about the importance of an online backup (or any type of backup) and what do you know? I ran across another service of the same type today.

IDrive-E is my kind of service. Free! With IDrive-E you can back up 2GB of data without any restrictions. There are also no bandwidth limits or file type restrictions with this free service.

You might be asking your self "Okay, what's the catch?" Well, there is no catch. This 2GB of backup storage is well suited for individuals and families and you can store your photos, media files and any other important documents.

If you need more storage space than 2GB you can upgrade to unlimited storage space for only $4.95 per month. You can create and manage multiple accounts and if you want to save money you can opt for the yearly plan of $49.95. (That is like getting 2 months free.)

If you are looking for an online backup I'd say IDrive-E is definitely worth looking into.

Jennifer Sleg wrote an interesting article on choosing anchor text that might be worth a read. Particularly interesting to me is the idea of making sure my anchor text is actually relevant to the destination page. This is one of the things I thought didn't really matter. Makes sense after reading the article that maybe it does.

You should also make sure you link using anchor text that is actually relevant to the destination page, ideally a page that includes some or all of the keywords that you are using in each keyword phrase for the anchor text. Because a signal of Googlebombing (making a page rank for a phrase that is not relevant to the page) is irrelevant anchor text, you want to ensure that those keywords are indeed relevant to the page and site so you aren’t inadvertently discounting those links.

Search Engine Marketing? I've heard the term thrown around here and there but to be honest I wouldn't be able to define it. I'd guess that it is similar to Search Engine Optimization but that would be just a guess.

Fortunately for myself (and anyone who might be reading this) I have found the definitive Search Engine Marketing Glossary. I learned from the Search Engine Marketing Glossary (among a lot of other things) that SEM means "the marketing of one's website through a search engine, whether through paid search or search engine optimization".

Out of curiosity and for comparison I looked up SEO also. The definition of SEO is "techniques used to improve a website's rankings in the search engines. Consists of on-page optimization, indexing improvements and link building." So now I know!

In addition to that great glossary, Apogee Search is one of the 25 largest Search Engine Marketing firms in the world. Not only the USA mind you, but the world. Even though Apogee Search is a global company and dedicated to helping clients everywhere, they do love to stay close to their southwestern United States roots and would like to continue that tradition by focusing on Houston SEO. Hear that Houston? Apogee Search is there for you. :)

Courtneytuttle.com is running a contest where he will be giving away his entire blog revenue paycheck for the month of May. I predict he will make $486.53 for the month of May.

Official prediction: make money online $486.53.

Here are the rules for the contest:

* Create a post on your blog, copy these rules and paste them into the post. (done)

* Make a guess! Link to my homepage with the text ‘make money online $1.00?, replacing the $1.00 with the amount of your guess. Example: make money online $100.56. (done)

* Leave this link to the rules page intact. (done)

* Use my contact page to confirm your entry by letting me know (make sure to include the URL of your post)! I will find most of them, but let me know to make sure! (done)

Wish me luck everyone! I sure could use an extra $486.53 next month. *grin*

Added note: Courtneytuttle.com is also the home of the D-List, which is list of blogs have the ‘no follow’ link disabled from the comments. That's how I found out about the contest in the first place - I was over there to get myself on the D-List. Maybe this is my lucky day! :)

I'm lazy. Okay, I'm not lazy when it comes to doing something I enjoy like building websites, but when it comes to technical stuff and things I consider time consuming and tedious I procrastinate until the cows come home. For example, backing up my computer files. I don't know why but I've never really liked to do it and I know how very important keeping a current backup is. You never know when your computer will decide to take a dive and I'd be a very, very unhappy person if I lost the silly things I have on my hard drive.

Now if you own a business keeping current backups is critical and thank goodness there is a service like IBackup. With Ibackup you can map online data as a drive or map data as a web folder for easy drag-n-drops that can be directly edited.

Ibackup uses the same data protection techniques that Fortune 500 companies rely on to safeguard your data. If you are interested in online backup and/or online storage I think you should check out Ibackup.com.

When I took a little break from the net, I took a break from almost everything. I didn't surf the web, visit any blogs, visit my own blogs or even check my email. I kept telling myself I'd better at least check my email but the more I put it off the more I dreaded it. That is until my son and daughter-in-law said they would be emailing me a gift card from Amazon, hehe.

I'm not exaggerating, I had over 500 spam emails when I finally checked my mail. It was pretty bad but most of them were easy to spot and delete. Now where is my Amazon gift card? *grin*

I've been looking for a digital camera since my old one died ages ago, but I don't seem to have the motivation to search and compare different models to find the one that will suit my family.

Testfreaks, a new site that is now in beta testing, looks like a very promising site that is going to solve my procratination problem when it comes to researching products and trying to determine the best one for my needs. Although the site has not officially launched yet, I can get a good feel for the way the site is going to operate just by looking at some of the pages. For instance, when I get ready to finally make that digital camera purchase I know where I am going to go for digital camera reviews.

Check out Testfreaks for a sneak peek of the up-and-coming website that will be bringing you reviews from all over the world about the hottest gadgets and consumer electronics.

Since I became disgusted with Google Adsense (I might give Adsense another try soon) I've been looking around for other passive ways to monetize my blog.

I recently ran across LinkWorth and signed up with them. With LinkWorth a site owner can be paid for text links, link words (blah), blog posts, link in text (haven't figured that one out yet) and full page advertisements.

I really like the idea of being paid monthly for the links placed on my site instead of being paid, oh, let's say $5.00 for one blog posting that is expected to remain on my site forever. That might be a good deal for the advertiser, but it isn't such a good deal for me.

The one thing that creeps me out about any of these sites is that they ask you for your social security number up front. I think I must be the only one that feels this way since I've never heard anyone else mention it, but I just don't like the idea of typing my SS# into a web site without knowing a little more about them. So I didn't fill out the I-9 tax form and I suppose they won't be giving me any text links.

I figure that if I earn $600.00 from anyone on the net I can give them my SS# at that time, but until then I don't just input my SS# into any old form on the net just because someone asks me to.

I am putting their affiliate banner on my sidebar, so if anyone is interested and doesn't know about them please click my banner. :)

And if anyone has ever used them and can provide some feedback, please feel free to leave a comment to this post. I'm interested in hearing what you have to say.

I admit it. Even though there are a few things that perturb me about PayPerPost there are a lot of things I do like about them. For this post I'll concentrate on the positive. :)

This blog was approved by PayPerPost on March 16th of this year and since that time I have completed five opportunities and have been paid $38.01. I knew when I signed up with a PR 0 blog that my opportunities would be somewhat limited, especially with a blog with a narrow niche like "Bloggers for Dollars". (I've expanded my niche a bit since then.) Now that I have a PR3 blog I'm sure that a few more opportunities will open up for me.

Of course I like a little bit of extra cash every now and then, but I'd have to say the thing I like best about PayPerPost is the community of posties and PPP's viral marketing techniques. I don't know of any other pay-to-blog service that has forums for bloggers and advertisers and I think that is one of the things that makes PayPerPost unique among all the others.

Sense of community is not something a company can buy. Either you have it or you don't, and I'd say that PayPerPost definitely has a sense of community.

When an affiliate messes you over it can leave a really bad taste in your mouth. For example, my affiliate code for PayPerPost was "2nkzzn" and I have used the code on several different web sites the last several months. Today, on a whim, I decided to check my affiliate status at PPP and see if I had any new sign-ups. I notice that my code is now "ypyd4g". Ouch! :(

I edited all the posts on this site (that I could find) by removing the URL altogether that referenced the previous code I was given. Now I have to comb through posts and pages from some other web sites too. What a pain. :(

The advertiser can now choose from the following disclosure options:

No Discloure
Custom Text the Advertiser enters
Custom Image the Advertiser Uploads
Default LoudLaunch Disclosure
TO AVOID REJECTED POSTS if the advertiser has opted for No Disclosure you must do the following.

1. Complete your post within 2 hours
2. Login to www.LoudLaunch.com at least 10 minutes after 'taking' the campaign
3. Click on 'My Posts'
4. Find your post and click on 'Manually Approve' next to the post

For all other disclosure types listed the approval process is the same as always. For Non-Disclosure posts, if you fail to manually approve your post within the 2 hour timeframe you can contact us and if the advertiser has enough budget remaining we will review and approve your post but by not going through the above process you run the risk of the funds being used by another blogger.

Q. How does disclosure work?
A. The LoudLaunch network believes in holding to high ethical standards when it comes to transparency and disclosure. We do not want to cheapen the experiences or conversations generated through our network by muddying the waters with half-hearted attempts at disclosure. While some in the industry feign support for disclosure, they then proceed to promote evasive disclosures washing their hands of ethical responsibility.

Disclosure: Each post in our network will include a LoudLaunch button and text that designates the posting as a Micro Press Release and links to the advertisers’ press release on the LoudLaunch network.

Q. How does LoudLaunch know when I've completed a post for an advertiser?
A. When you create your post you add the LoudLaunch HTML image tag required for visitor tracking. The first time your post is viewed, the image tracker will notify us that you have posted your entry.

Q. Does my post have to stay on my blog for a specific amount of time?
A. We ask that LoudLaunch posts stay on your front page at least 14 days; The post should also remain accessible from in your archives for at least 45 days.

Q. How and how often do I get paid?
A. We pay bloggers via Paypal within 5 days of the 1st of each month for all approved posts placed between the 1st and 20th of the prior month.

Q. How many times can I post per day?
A. Initially, bloggers can post up to twice a day. Bloggers with multiple blogs can post twice a day on each blog.

Q. Are there specific requirements for my posts?
A. Yes. Both LoudLaunch and our advertisers have requirements. LoudLaunch requires bloggers to give fair reviews and to add the LoudLaunch Logo to the bottom of the post that will direct readers back to the advertiser’s press release at LoudLaunch.com. Advertisers can set limited requirements when creating their campaigns. In general, advertisers’ requirements are limited to adding links or pictures and discussing certain topics in the post.

Q. Do I have to write a positive review for an advertiser's campaign?
A. No, we do not allow advertisers to require bloggers to spin their campaigns one way or the other. Advertisers provide the press release for the bloggers to review, provide the information they wish to disseminate, offer links for bloggers to educate themselves, and the rest is up to the bloggers. One of the corner-stone principles of the LoudLaunch network is that the bloggers should and must remain true to themselves, their blog, and their audience.

Q. What happens if I write a lukewarm or negative entry for an advertiser?
A. When you create your post you add the LoudLaunch HTML image tag required for visitor tracking. The first time your post is viewed, the image tracker will notify us that you have posted your entry. (Writing a negative review will not jeopardize your LoudLaunch status. However, advertisers will have the ability to submit feedback on the bloggers posts. This feedback will be used to help monitor our bloggers for professionalism. A pattern of negative feedback or abuse could lead to a review of your blogging status in our network. In our opinion, as long as a blogger is fair and writing without malicious intent there should be no problems with the posts.)

How often are my blog stats updated?

Blog stats are updated on a Monthly basis. You will be notified if the total rank of your blog has changed, so that you can update your pricing if necessary.

How long does it take for Advertisers to approve my bids?

Advertisers are all different but you should not expect all of your bids to be answered right away. Some advertisers may take weeks or more to accept/decline bids. Some advertisers may not respond at all. It is important to understand that advertisers recieve hundreds of bids within the first few days of posting an opportunity. They will usually purchase the best value blogs first, then wait to see how the reviews look, then purchase some more. This process can go on for many weeks.

It is important to note that it is not necessary to bid on opportunities in order to earn money in SponsoredReviews. Your blog is included in our blog directory (unless you set it as private) which allows advertisers to search and purchase reviews directly from you.

How much can I earn writing reviews?

With SponsoredReviews, you set your own price. Depending on the size of your readership and the quality of your blog posts, you can earn anywhere from $10 to $1000 per review. If you are a major site, you might be able to get even more. Do not overprice your reviews else you might not get any work. Remember, there are thousands of other bloggers in our marketplace. Advertisers will choose the best blogs based on quality and on value.

What are the guidelines for writing reviews?

Please read our Guide to Blogging

How many blogs can I register with SponsoredReviews?

You may register an unlimited number of blogs as long as they meet the minimum requirements. The blogs must be unique and not similar to each other.

What are the minimum requirements for a blog to be accepted?

* Your blog must contain at least 10 posts with 200 words of unique content each.
* Your blog must not be completely automated or appear to be created solely for search engine traffic.
* Your blog must have at least a 3:1 ratio of non-paid to paid content.
* You must complete all accepted reviews within 7 days.
* Your blog must have a minimum number of incoming links and traffic to qualify.
* Your blog must have a professional appearance.

Am I required to disclose that the review is paid?

Yes you are, but how you do it and the words you use are up to you. You can simply state "This is a Sponsored Review" at the bottom/top of the post, or you can integrate it into the content. You can also include a site-wide disclosure statement notifying your audience that you get paid to write certain content. How you disclose is up to you.

When will I be paid for reviews I write?

We pay on a bi-weekly basis. You will be paid within 14 days of submitting the completed review URL.
How do I get paid?

You will receive your earnings via PayPal on a bi-weekly basis.
How do I know when or if I have been paid?

You can check your payment history and a summary of your outstanding earnings on our site at any time. You will receive your outstanding earnings two weeks after your review is completed
How long do I need to keep the review on my site

Reviews should be permanently archived on your site. However, we only require that they stay up for 30 days. Any blogger found to be removing their reviews after 30 days consistently will be removed from our network. Advertisers are purchasing reviews under the assumption that they will be archived.

I'm sure that is obvious.

Now, I'm wondering if I want to continue with paid blogging with this particular blog. My other option with this blog is to sell the domain name. I do have a personal blog For the Heck of it that I like very much and intend to keep on keeping on with that one.

I'm finding that after being away for barely a month so much has changed it is blowing my mind trying to figure it all out again. Just when I thought I was getting a handle on it! This is my own fault though, so all I have to do now is make my decision and then take it from there.

I noticed that PayPerPost has moved their blogging convention from June to November and from Orlando to Las Vegas. Wow. I bet that was a slap in the face to a lot of folks. Ouch.

In other news it seems like Loudlaunch has changed their disclosure policy. In an email dated May 3 they say:

The advertiser can now choose from the following disclosure options:

No Discloure
Custom Text the Advertiser enters
Custom Image the Advertiser Uploads
Default LoudLaunch Disclosure

I really like Loudlaunch so if I decide to continue with paid blogging I'm sure I'll be using their services. Time will tell. It is not like the internet is going to disappear tomorrow or anything. :p
