Don't lose the Wordpress Preview Window!
I haven't upgraded my Wordpress blog (For the Heck It!)to 2.2 yet so I didn't know about the Wordpress preview window being replaced with a link. dang. I hate it when software is "upgraded" but makes more work and hassle for the end user.
According to John Chow there is a way to bring it back though. Thank goodness for that or I might not ever upgrade again. I really like the preview window.
Added note:
I just started a new blog using Wordpress 2.2 (A Geek Mom's Net Journey) and I took John Chow's advice and downloaded the Preview Frame Plugin from Roblog. So far it seems to be working just fine.

Mission: Intelligence - Attack of the Spyware
I've recently mentioned that I've had a few problems lately with spyware attacks, but the worst problem I ever had was in January of 2006. Funny that I would remember exactly when it happened but it coincided with some other things that happened that month so that's why I remember the date. Too bad I didn't have Spy Sweeper to prevent those problems.
Actually, the issue wasn't with my own computer. The spyware problem was with my husband's computer but since I'm the official computer admin of our family I was the one that had to fix it. :(
The problem my husband had was that he didn't realize some of the pop-ups he received and that asked him to "click to remove spyware" were actually putting the spyware and trojans on his computer in the first place. He downloaded the "spyware cleaners" that the pop-ups told him to which in turn made it worse. Then they started asking him to pay money to remove the trojan they put on his computer! It was awful.
And as if that wasn't bad enough, something happened to his .lnk files (we never figured that one out) and he could not load any program at all. I tried to fix his computer for over a week until we finally just gave up and re-installed his OS. What a pain!
Thank goodness for an award-winning product like Spy Sweeper. Spy Sweeper blocks known and emerging spyware threats as you browse before they ever reach your computer. If your PC is already infected Spy Sweeper will find and completely destroy malicious spyware that is already on your computer. Sounds good to me.
Blogstorm
Blogstorm is a new service allowing you to track the number of websites linking to your blog posts or news articles.
To use their service you have to:
1. Download a PHP script
2. Get a Yahoo API key
3. Sign up at the Blogstorm website
I haven't signed up yet because that seems like a few more hoops than I want to jump through right now. It might be a good service for anyone that wants to keep track of back-links though.
Communication Software Reviews
I never realized how many different types of voice communication software there were until I ran across the Voiceintegrity.com website. Look at this list of some of the various voice software available: voice animation, face animation, voip internet calling, webcam video camera software, text to speech software, text to speech voices, wireless phones, phone recording, online dating, and live customer support. Now, that's a lot to wade through.
How do you find the software that is right for you? Well, you don't have to do the research because it has been done for you by Voiceintegrity.com with their Communication Software Reviews. Voiceintegrity.com not only provides their own reviews but they provide third party reviews as well. If you have an interest in voice communication software I'd recommend giving Voiceintegrity.com a look.
ClickComments For Your Blog
Another reason not to like Drupal. I'm pretty mad at Drupal right now and have decided I'll never have another Drupal site again as long as I live. (Okay, it was own my fault for not RTFM but I'm still mad at them.)
I was going try ClickComments out on this site to see if it was something I'd like to use here but I just realized it is a plugin for Wordpress, Typepad or Blogger. Dang.
I did install it on my Wordpress blog For the Heck of It! (just to check it out) but I decided I didn't like it so I removed it. I don't like the idea of people clicking to vote on whether or not they like a post. I'd never get any votes! hehe
TheNewsRoom.com!
I don't mind admitting that this blog is totally different from the site I envisioned when I bought this domain. I wasn't even going to put a blog here in the beginning but one thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I'm blogging up a storm (well, intermittently) and even getting paid for it once in awhile.
Sometimes I go through dry spells as far as content is concerned and I'm always on the lookout for help or ideas in that area. I think I've found a great content source with The News Room. Now I wouldn't want my blog to consist entirely of videos but I think a video once in a while that is relevant to the theme or focus of a blog is a good thing. It is nice to change things up every so often.
TheNewsRoom provides access to hundreds of thousands of videos that can be "mashed" or embedded into your post. At first I thought "what? mashed?" It sounded like vernacular from the deep south. (yeah, like where I'm from, hehe). But after reading a little farther I see why they coined that term. TheNewsRoom is great way to monetize a website or blog. You can "mash for cash" by embedding videos into your content and get paid for doing it.
Every time mashed news is viewed on your site you earn a share of the advertising revenue with TheNewsRoom's viral payment plan. But that isn't the only thing you can get paid for. If someone sees news on your site and decides to mash it from your site to theirs you also earn money that way.
But wait there's more. By participating in TheNewsRoom's loyalty program registrants can earn prizes such as digital cameras or a new car. Yep, registrants have an opportunity to earn a new car. Wow.
All in all, The News Room seems like a great place to find quality content and get paid for using it. And if you think you have to have uber technical skills then think again. Embedding the video into this post was quick and easy. All you have to do is register, select a video, press "Mash" and copy the code. It doesn't get much easier than that.

Geeks are Sexy!
I'm happy and perturbed at the same time. I'm happy that I found a blog that I really enjoy reading and also a bit perturbed at myself because I have a schedule to keep but I keep going back to Geeks are Sexy to read more and to watch the videos. I guess that's a good kind of perturbed but I really need to quit procrastinating over there and get up out of this chair. I will in a few minutes or I'm going to be late for an appointment but there is one more video I want to watch first. :)
The goal of Geeks are Sexy is to provide up to the minute technical news, reviews and tutorials to their readership. I'd say that they are meeting that goal quite well. For example here is a video of the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates Video Interview at D5 day before yesterday. I already watched the interview highlights video and I plan to go back later this evening and watch the entire interview. I'm particularly interested in hearing the questions from the audience.
Geeks are Sexy say their audience is "mainly composed of IT professionals and computer enthusiasts". While I'm no IT professional I certainly am a computer enthusiast and as such I appreciate this blog with the up to the minute news and reviews. Some of their articles are waaaay over my head, like the one on scanning your network for USB-related security risks and another with the binary system explanation, um, what? But this article on Turning your Blog into a Money Making Machine is right up my alley.
I've added Geeks are Sexy to my feed reader and plan to make it one of my daily reads.
