Take control of your Alexa ranking!

In the past several weeks there has been a lot of discussionBeating A Dead Horse about Alexa in some of the forum communities I frequent, especially the forums of some of the blog ad networks (aff) I visit regularly.

From what I understand Alexa will not even recognize your site unless your visitors are using either the Alexa toolbar for IE or the Search Status extension for Firefox. (There may be other toolbars and extensions also, these are just the ones I know about.)

I'm not comfortable with relying on my visitors to have these tools installed. I want to ensure I'm receiving credit for my traffic by every person that visits my site regardless of whether they have the toolbars or extensions installed. To do this I figured that I'd have to put something on my blog to trigger the transmission of data back to Alexa's site.

That's why I installed an Alexa Site Widget on my blog. I don't know if it is a coincidence or not but I went from 4,080,035 to 1,364,067 in just a few days. If my theory is correct then every visitor to my blog downloads the Alexa site widget when they visit my blog and that is how Alexa receives data on every visitor. (not that there are very many visitors here! hehe)

This is what the widget looks like:

If you want to try it on your site you can get it here. Can't hurt, right?

Thanks Anna for the good posting!.

Trying it, 2.

Thanks for the info about Alexa. I installed the plugin, now. My daily rank is approx 100K, but I can't get it to remain over 100K on a longer term basis. Let's hope the plugin works!

Kenneth

all righty... :)

I think your ranking will drop down and then level off... that's what mine did... um, you mean under 100k don't ya?

I tried to leave a comment on your post about the Digital Point forums but I never could figure out what year it was, hehe... I tried 2007, then 200?, then 2006 and gave up... maybe your captcha is having a bad day... Giggle 2

Thanks!! Trying it out now!

That's a great tip, thanks! :D I've installed it on all my blogs and hope it'll increase my ranking too. hehe.

You're welcome!

I can't guarantee with 100% certainty that it will help but it does make sense to me that it would.

Thank you! I've been looking for ways to improve my Alexa ranking and so far this is the most useful info I got!

My pleasure! :)

It feels much better to take responsibility for transmitting the traffic data to Alexa than to rely on whether or not somebody is surfing around with a toolbar or extension, hehe...

To be honest, I didn't figure this out myself - I Googled it, hehe...

Thanks for stopping by and come back anytime... :)

Thank you!

Hey Anna,

Thank you very much. I have installed the widget on my site. So far it says "no data" for ranking, but I hope it will improve :) I'll let you know if the stats go up!

Don't forget to register

Don't forget to register your site with Alexa... I think that makes a difference also...

hey

hey anna

how do i register my site with alexa?

Good question! hehe

I should make a blog entry about this too... in the meantime go to your traffic page in Alexa and scroll down to the section to "Edit Contact Data"... This will get you registered and have Alexa start to take notice of you...

For example, here is my page and you can scroll down and see that I have put in my contact information... Frankly, I left most of the blank and only put in my name and email address... I figure that's all they need to know... Winking 2

Bloggers for Dollars Alexa Page

hey

and btw how did u get alexa to rank your blog 470,242 .any suggestions?

I only did 3 things in regard to my Alexa rating...

First of all, I own this domain so that is a big factor right there... the 3 things I did were: register with Alexa by filling in my contact information, putting the Alexa widget on my blog, and installing the Firefox extension... actually, installing the extension didn't do anything for me - it only helps the sites I visit...

Thanks for asking good questions... :)

how to confirm

ok i did the contact info thing.now do i need to confirm it too.I think thats going to be a problem for free hosted blogs like blogspot blogs.any solutions here?or just leave it without confirming?

Blogspot is a whole 'nother story...

I don't think you can get a true Alexa rating with Blogspot since you don't own the domain... to be honest, I know very little about Blogspot... I have started a few blogs there but they never really seem to take hold...

There has been a lot of discussion about Alexa and Blogspot in the PPP Forums lately... you might want to check out some of the discussion there...
